GO! celebrates the opening of the extended central HUB in
Niederaula

  • Major construction project completed in less than a year
  • Investment of over €11 million
  • 100 per cent increase in capacity

Bonn, 27 September 2018. Around a year after the symbolic groundbreaking for the extended GO! central HUB in August 2017, GO! celebrated the opening of the extension of its central sorting facility in Niederaula, Hesse, at the weekend together with regional representatives, those involved in the construction, employees and their families, and other guests.

Project completed during operation

Less than a year after the groundbreaking in August 2017, the project was completed on schedule this summer. 40,000 cubic metres of earth was moved during this time, an amount corresponding to 4,000 truckloads. Over 300 concrete parts with a weight of over 2,700 tonnes were produced and assembled, over 80 kilometres of electrical cables installed and over 30,000 working hours completed. There is now a production space of over 7,600 m² in Niederaula, providing more space for office, social and storage
areas, 127 gates, including 10 lorry gates, and 1,637 kilometres of conveyor belts. The expansion enables 10,500 packages to be sorted per hour. To handle these volumes, GO! will take on up to 30 additional employees at the location. The expansion work was carried out during ongoing operation, with the logistics expert investing more than €11 million
in the construction project. ‘I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you and I am proud that, by working together efficiently, we have completed this project on schedule and without any incidents during continuous operation,’ says Ulrich Nolte, managing director of GO! Express & Logistics (Deutschland) GmbH, at the opening ceremony.

Extended capacity ensures customer benefits

For more than four years, the independent express and courier service provider GO! has been increasing its consignment volumes by over ten percent annually. It became necessary to expand the central HUB in order to cope with continuously growing delivery volumes while maintaining the same high quality standards. GO! Express & Logistics currently transports well over 6.5 million consignments per year, generating turnover of over €300 million. The new storage area also offers an additional benefit to customers. The cut-off time is pushed back, with additional precious time gained for later orders.
