For Olympic canoeist Sebastian Brendel, training has picked up speed again and finally there are opportunities for him to compete again. But: no Tokyo 2020. The cancellation of the Olympic Games and many other sporting competitions has caused quite a stir in the canoeist life 2020. Staying fit and keeping up the performance curve for the 2021 Olympics was still top priority for Sebastian Brendel in the past months. But without competition, the thrill will fall by the wayside.

The first training camp in Kienbaum in mid-June was therefore a welcome change. The goal: preparation for some sportive dates, which - of course with reservations - are still possible in 2020.

In the past weeks Brendel could again compete with other German canoeists in several performance tests in Duisburg. They showed: everything at its best. In the first test Brendel achieved 2nd place in the single canoe over 500 and 1,000 metres. At the second performance test in mid-July, he rowed to 1st place in the distance over 1,000 metres. For the first time, Brendel also started in a two-man Canadian - together with his new partner Tim Hecker.

Another test competition in Duisburg will take place in August. So Brendel will be well prepared for the two remaining championship races in 2020: the World Cup / World Championship in Szeged at the end of September and the European Championship in Romania at the end of October.

Good luck on your way to Tokyo, Sebastian!
