Take-off for GO! General Overnight: Kassel-London charter flights mean improved international express service.
Bonn. The medium-sized courier GO! General Overnight (Service) Deutschland GmbH is setting up a regular airline flight for the first time in its 19-year history as it extends its international service. Since the turn of the year, GO! and the British express operator Norsk have been running a nightly charter flight between the airports at Kassel-Calden and London-Luton. The launch phase having been successfully concluded, GO!'s new service offers customers quicker access to international destinations with airports that are quickly reached via London's excellent infrastructure. This will significantly reduce global shipping times.
Mondays to Thursdays since January, a freight plane has been running between Kassel-Calden in North Hesse, near to GO!'s hub at Neuenstein/Bad Hersfeld and London-Luton airport under contract from GO! and Norsk. For less critical weekend transport, GO! uses a lorry to make the connection. The service upgrade, run with a Shorts 360 plane, was launched very successfully and it may be that an ATR 42 with an increased cargo capacity of 5.5 tons will replace the smaller machine before long. The link is producing highly positive results for customers with European destinations that can only be reached much more slowly by land. With London's Heathrow Airport being an international hub, GO! is also able to ensure that consignments are forwarded quickly to non-European destinations.
Norbert Suttarp, GO! General Overnight's MD, explains the idea, "The new air route enables us to extend our service so that consignments can be delivered before midday in countries that don't border on Germany, too - just as our customers here at home are used to."
The nightly flight starts in Great Britain and the consignments are fed from the other countries into the GO! network via GO!'s Neuenstein hub. In Germany the international deliveries are made the next morning, mostly before 10 o'clock and before midday in more rural areas. When the plane goes back to London, the German consignments are also delivered to many parts of Great Britain in the morning by GO!'s partner Norsk. The direct air route means that deliveries can even be made before 9 o'clock the next day to London's City.
"In this global economy, our customers need smooth, fast international transport links, as they are often decisive for business success and they also give our customers competitive advantages. Our charter route is meeting this demand," Norbert Suttarp explains the background and adds, "For GO!, setting this air route up is an important step along the road to globalisation - but it's certainly not going to be the last one!"
