GO! General Overnight opens up its system
Bonn. The courier company GO! General Overnight will in the future be opening up its route system even more to external despatchers that do not form part of the system, but who wish to feed consignments into the GO! network. This is the company's way of reacting to the current market shakeups in the German CEP market.
Due to the well-documented insolvencies and restructurings of recent months, GO! estimates the number of overnight consignments that no longer belong to a system at several thousand per night. "Many express and courier services are now looking to link up with an effective system to transport their consignments", explained Norbert Suttarp, the MD of GO! General Overnight Service (Deutschland) GmbH. "And we offer a suitable, reliable network for such consignments." As early as last summer, GO! extended its hub in Neuenstein/Bad Hersfeld to increase capacity for the brief nocturnal time window consignment processing by 40 per cent.
The consignments are all fed into the system via GO!'s regional system partners using GO! consignment notes. Bonuses that depend on quantity make it attractive for new suppliers to use GO!'s system.
However GO! has no plans to incorporate new associate members. Suttarp explains, "Our system is so successful precisely because we have always remained true to our strategy. This includes having a long-term, stable structure of associate and partner companies. If we don't protect our territory, it could easily end up in a price war between different network partners which in turn would harm quality." The company is currently showing constant growth in the number of consignments, which can partly be traced back to changes in the marketplace. "GO! General Overnight has grown by around 20 per cent in 2003, and 15 per cent growth is envisaged for 2004", confirms Suttarp.
