Air transport safety

Legal regulations

Directive (EG) 2320/2002 from the European Parliament about safety in civilian air transport and the federal air transport safety directive (LuftSiG) are a major topic of discussion at the moment. The Federal civil aviation authority (LBA) has presented a new safety concept for air transport with the aim of preventing illegal acts in civilian air transport.
The law requires all GO! stations to apply to the LBA for registration as ”approved carriers”. Approved carriers nominate a person who will be responsible for air transport safety and for implementing the new provisions of these directives at the individual GO! stations.

Known and unknown shippers

As a general rule the law requires that all shippers should in future be registered as ”known shippers“. This also applies to GO! customers. For the law it is unfortunately not enough that they are longstanding customers. The law stipulates that the approved carrier must individually register its customers as known shippers and GO! therefore has the duty to require a so-called ”Known shipper security declaration” from all its air-transport consignors. The relevant form can be accessed below. For airfreight purposes the shipments from known consignors are classed as secure, and as a rule there are no additional security checks on them. Shipments from so-called “unknown shippers“ are subjected to the relevant security checks. This can lead to delays in processing which may also lead to extra costs.

Security in air transport

In order to ensure the continued trouble-free and smooth processing of airfreight with the normal delivery times and without extra costs, it is vital for known shippers to return the original copy of the security declaration as soon as possible.
