Crude oil
Crude oil is one of the most important raw materials used in our modern industrial society and is the basic product from which fuels are derived. Diesel fuel is produced by way of crude oil distillation. Due to the finite nature of the product, production disruptions in Iraq, environmental effects such as tornadoes, and last but not least through speculative profits reaped by the mineral oil companies, crude prices have continually risen. In January 2005, the average price for a barrel of crude was still around $44.51. From then to September 2005, the average price rose by $18.4 (or by all of 43%) to a level of $64.

Crude oil and GO!
As a transport service provider, GO! is heavily affected by this development. Until now we have borne the impact of rising crude prices ourselves. Unfortunately we are obliged to adjust our prices to the current market situation.

Introduction of a fuel surcharge
As of 1 November 2005, GO! has introduced a fuel surcharge. The surcharge is calculated on a monthly basis, based on the average price of crude. Respective adjustments of the surcharge become applicable as of the first day of each month. The corresponding information will be made available on the internet around two weeks before the respective start date.

Calculation basis for fuel surchargeThe fuel surcharge is based on the monthly average price for a barrel of Brent crude as determined by the United States Department of Energy (DOE). The current data basis is available by clicking here [PDF]. The published average value of the previous month is the data basis for the coming (not the current) month.

Calculation example of the surcharge rate: let us assume that in December the current average price for a barrel of crude is $63. According to the defined index table, the surcharge then comes to 4%. This value is the surcharge for the month of February.

Overview of the surcharges table:

Invoicing
The fuel surcharge is only added to the net amount of a consignment. Extra services, such as COD consignments or acknowledgments of receipt, carry no surcharge. The surcharge is levied on each consignment separately.
